Bayer and Röhm: PC and PET sheet merger
The PC and PET sheet operations of Bayer and Röhm are to be merged under the existing joint venture Makroform. Röhm will contribute all its PC operations and Bayer will contribute its companies Axxis, Belgium and Carbolux, Italy which will remain independent companies.
The new Makroform will manufacture solid,twin-wall and also currugated sheets with a turnover of over 100 million /year. The used materials are Makrolon PC, Bayloy PC blends and Thermoplastic polyesters.

Solvay: Acquisition of X-linked PE compounder
Solvay has bought 80 per cent of the italian compounder Padanaplast of Roccabianca. Padanaplast is specialised in compounding crossl-linked PE for the pipe and cable industry with a turnover of EURO 25 million and 70 employees. Japan Polychem : Metallocene random-copolymer PP
Japan Polychem Corp. has recently made the first commercial-scale test run of very low-melting, metallocene random-copolymer PP. According to the company this metallocene RCP (mRCP) is superior in strength and transparency to convential RCP. Due to the very low melting point of 125 C (257 F) it is very suitable for heat-sealable films which reportedly can be sealed at a 10-degree C lower temperature than commerciallly available materials. JPC plans to commercialize mRCP by end of the year.

ANTEC: Debut for 12-Screw Compounder
3+ Extruder GmbH, Germany will present its 12-screw ring compounder at the SPE ANTEC in Orlando and then at NPE 2000 in Chicago in June. Eastman Chemical, the world leader in PET has signed an agreement with Reliance Industries, India to market 'Spectar' and 'Eastar PETG' copolyester in India.
