New development machine for jPCT...
« on: July 12, 2011, 10:51:31 pm »
...and for playing some games, too... ;)

It's a nice and fast machine...if you are a hardware freak like me, you might want to read the specs:

Core i7 2600K @ 4Ghz, 16 GB RAM, 120 GB OCZ Vertex3 SSD, 2 TB Caviar Black, Asrock Fatal1ty P67 Performance, Asus Xonar DG, Windows 7 64bit (and some Ubuntu running in a VM)

The graphics card stays the same for now (Radeon HD 5870)...

CPU is cooled by a Scythe Ninja 3...the case is my 10 year old trusty noname server case with one large fan blowing in and one blowing out..pretty standard.

Not really. It's actually pretty much silent for a gaming machine.

Egon, what do you think about OCZ VERTEX 3? Or about Plextor  devices?

It's a good and fast drive, but because it uses the latest Sandforce controller, it has problems with Intel's chipsets for Sandy Bridge (resulting in system pauses and hangs). If you have one of those, make sure to install the latest firmware for the Vertex 3, which seems to fix it. If possible, do this while the drive hasn't been used as boot device or otherwise, i'll have to go through all the hassle that i had to...
