Hi Egon,
Your picture (the man with the cigar), is that really you?
Magnus
-
No... ;D It's the "real" Egon Olsen, a character from older danish motion pictures.
-
That's good wouldn't want you having a stroke while coding :P
-
So, your not even Egon Olson? This is confusing.
-
No, it's just a nick name. I guess your real name isn't fireside either... ;)
-
Well, yeah, but fireside doesn't sound like a real name. I guess it's because you picked an obscure actor. If it was Clint Eastwood or something, it would have been easier to figure it out. Maybe Egon Olson is big time over there, but I never heard of him. Kind of looks like W.C. Fields a little bit. The cigar anyway.

No, this character isn't that popular here in germany either. Maybe he is in danmark, where the movie series (called Olsenbanden) actually comes from. I think i should elaborate on this nick a little more:
As said, Egon Olsen is a fictitious character. He's a kind of gangster boss albeit his gang is more like his family. Almost every film starts with him leaving the jail having a great plan for the next big coup. These plans are always very freaky but they do work...to a degree. At the end, he always goes back into jail, because some little detail in his plan didn't work out as expected. So much for the background...
Now we come to east- and west-germany: Back in the days, when there were two german states, the only show on east-german Television that a west-german (like me) could stand was Olsenbanden. I really enjoyed watching the movies, but most west-germans didn't watch east-german TV, partly because they couldn't receive it (too far away from the border), partly because it was awful...except for Olsenbanden.
It's the year 1991...i'm doing my military service, there is no east germany anymore and during the weekends, i'm playing Wings on my Commodore Amiga. Wings require you to fill out a flight roster when you start with your missions. In that roster, you have a forename and a surname...and my usual nick name at that time (caused by the fact that most games had very limited space for the name in the high scores) was just Bobo. But Bobo didn't work for Wings, so i had to make out something else...and the first thing that came to my mind was Egon Olsen.
And that all together is the reason, why i'm using this name... ;D
-
And finally a current picture of myself (i'm the one to the right... ;D) to show that i'm really not that guy with the cigar:

Cute, how old is your kid?
-
What's that brown thing on the railing that you're both so interested in?
My nickname isn't quite so interesting. It's the name of my apple tree. Fireside apples. I liked the name because I've always liked fire. I heat my house with a wood stove.
-
He's around 15 months old and that "brown thing" is a ladybeetle.

Another related question, how do you prefer to be mentioned in game credits: as your screen name EgonOlsen or as Helge Foerster?
-
Normally for engines you only need to specify the name like jpct. BTW, I still haven't gotten around to that on my mouse game, sorry.

Either way is fine.
-
(Helge F., I hope you don't mind, but I think your real picture
would have attracted a few more people to jPCT than Egon Olsen's picture.
Because Egon looks neither intelligent nor emphatic,
and the name rhymes with egoistic.
Actually I was a little bit deterred when I had my first glance
at the jPCT forums and saw Egon's face everywhere.)

I never thought that Egon's pretty face might have such an impact... :o

Egon's face isn't quite as intimidating as Matson's on the lwjgl forums...

I don't think his face (Egon's) is intimidating. He just looks like a character. I never thought it was a picture of Helge, I thought he just picked it as an avatar, but I thought Egon Olson was his name, not the character. I like it more now that I know the story behind it. It's a good idea for a plot. I might use it in a game or something.

"The misterious transformation..." November at the stores, X360, WII and PC (earlier at torrent) ^^
I agree that your real picture is much more human and humble. I usually can 'sense' the kind of person from his/her face and by yours, you seem a nice person and a family guy. As I said is much better than that Egon gangster.
I'm afraid of him... with that side look and the cigar... Is he mad?
I'm going back to my cave :D

He is going back to his cave.

Did I miss something?
