I highly recommend to use an actual device for development instead of relying on the emulator. You have to setup your device and your desktop machine for development (adjust settings, install drivers...), but i'm not going to cover this here. If you've installed the Android SDK, you'll find USB drivers for a lot of devices in the distribution. If you are using a Samsung phone, you'll get additional drivers if you install KIES.
