Hi, does anybody knows some source of sounds to use freely. A firend of mine said he could help me doing the sounds and the music for my game "undead FlierMatch", but now he says he has no time and I am looking for some free sounds to use.

I mainly use the second site that Egon mentioned.  It does have free sounds, but there is also a large archive of pay-per-download sound effects which are reasonably priced IMHO.

Another site that has a massive archive of free sound effects is http://www.findsounds.com/.  I was not able to find any copyright information on this site, though, so I would recommend further research before using it to download sounds for use in a commercial application.  It looks to be similar to google images, where it searches the internet for sound effects.  That would raise serious copyright issues if it is the case.

Couldnt find anything nice, I guess I will have to do my own sounds using a microphone and blowing, whistling and things like that. Maybe recording some sounds from movies like starwars and then editing a bit.

Audacity is a pretty nice free sound editing program.  Has a lot of filters and things for changing pitch, etc.

IMHO, the problem with sampling sounds out of movies (let alone the copyright stuff) is, that they almost never appear in a clean form. They are intermixed with music, speech, other sounds...you don't really recognize this when watching the movie, but you do when taking little sound bits out of it.

Apart from the particle engine, it's a little rough to do a general purpose explosion animation.  I might could do one for you if you post your ship someplace.  I work in Blender so it would be some 3ds frames, like 4 or something.  The poly count would be higher because I would have to divide the ship up.

I don't remember if you use 3ds Max.  If you do, there is a nice tutorial on how to make a generic explosion (not an object blowing up - just an explosion).  You can use the basic concept outlined there to make a variety of different explosions.
