Title: Suggestion
Post by: N3M3SiS on April 04, 2007, 01:24:30 pm
A suggestion I want to give u that why don't you make a tutorial forum?. or provide some example tutorials in the JPCT packages not the made ones but provide some pages with example codes and descriptions like how to add maps, etc... Like the irrlicht engine's owners did that would be best and very help ful and also a tutorial forum would be much helpful for users because the members will give useful tutorials through which others can get benefit. Sorry for my english if its bad cuz english is not my language. Hope you understand what I wrote.  :)

Even I'm a n00b I don't know which files extensions to use how to code, compile etc... But I have my 3d objects and I still want to make a game so providing some tips and tutorials on how to make things done will be helpful.

You have:
1. General intro to the engine
2. Engine documentation
3. Quite well commented examples
4. A forum with a search function and many already answered questions

I think provided information is quite enough. As Egon said it's mandatory to know Java, and I would add it's mandatory to learn some geometry and concepts used in 3d graphics, you can't expect to start immediately making awesome games from scratch, it's not basic stuff at all :) And 'how to make things' is too general question :) Be patient :)

I think knowing lower level stuff will be useful (but not so mandatory. You choose the balance between quality and fast results). Here's a nice site with OpenGL lessons: http://nehe.gamedev.net/
I think it's useful to feel how things work.

Ok I agree to you but a tutorial forum will be much useful to users because users who discover or add new things they can share em and describe how to use em or how to make anything they discover

Ok, I see your point, but:
1. The engine, by its nature isn't really user friendly. It's nice designed and implemented and developer friendly, though ;)
2. The community is not quite big, maybe because people are more comfortable using c/c++ for making games, because this way has much more traditions and people have done it many, many times
3. There's a Feedback subforum already. Everyone can share what he/she has done. If the information that can be clearly classified into category 'Tutorial' grows it can be moved to another specialized subforum, but this is not the case in the present moment, I think.
