I think thats more or less the same as a projected texture.

I think a few games already do this.

Still, I understand when something need not be perfect.
The maps I will be making will very rarely have a sharp, irregular ground anyway.

One other option could be to just use a Light! A nice green, or red light positioned at the point
where the ring would be might be nice. Could een be used in conjunction, to draw your eye away slightly.

And with bloom, I bet it looks amazing!:)
I'd be interested to see bloom in Paradroidz personally ;)

That's because everything else would be overkill. Using projective texturing just to draw these marks is simply too expensive.

Just incase anyone is vaguely interested;)...

I am spending this week on my older, website based game.
I am implementing some drag and drop effects, AJAX loading for ever page, etc.

This will hopefully reduce the load on the server.
I am also splitting the attack based scripts into segments, for speed reasons.

So, essentially, I will not be posting strange questions until friday;)

Not only multitexturing but projective texturing. jPCT doesn't support it ATM. It could be doable in hardware (i'm not sure how well it would fit into the pipeline) but will be pretty hard in software and not worth the afford IMHO.
jPCT 1.14 will most likely come with projective texturing for the hardware renderer. Here's a little preview: http://www.jpct.net/demos/proj/proj.jnlp. (ESC to exit, b to toggle bloom effect)

Maybe could this projective texturing may be applied on somehow like a sun light as the main light source? the non projected  polygons will be rendered as shadow!
Nada por ahora

The problem is, that the projection isn't based on visibility, so things that should be in shadow will get their part of the projection too. But projective texturing is an important step to shadow mapping, which itself won't make it into 1.14 but may come for 1.15.
